Alvor is a traditional Portuguese village situated on a sheltered natural lagoon which opens into the sea. The town is a maze of narrow cobbled streets, surrounding the old parish church. There are many restaurants in Alvor that serve a variety of cuisine, catering for most tastes. The quayside restaurants serving their "catch of the day" specials are always good value. Fish and shellfish feature prominently on the menus. Fish stews and grilled sardines are specialities.
The waterfront bars and restaurants offers you the opportunity to relax with a sundowner drink before sampling some of the renowned seafood on offer. Deep sea fishing and boating trips are available at the harbour.

Portimao:
Portimao lies at the mouth of the river Arade, which forms a natural harbour. It is a very attractive town with excellent facilities, great beaches, a modern marina and many leisure activities. Much of the present architecture is late nineteenth century. Its beautiful beaches offer fine sand and a range of water sports. Portimao also offers excellent shopping facilities including a modern mall, good restaurants and some lively bars, clubs and discos.
